Sarfraz A. Mian is Professor of Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, State University of New York at Oswego, NY. He has previously taught at University of Maryland, George Washington University, University of Osnabrueck, Germany, and lectured at Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan. He earned his Bachelor’s in Engineering from Punjab, Master’s in Management Sciences from Northwestern University, and an MBA & Ph.D. in Business Administration from George Washington University. Professor Mian has served as Chair Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) Technology Management Section (2002-04) and an Executive Committee Member and Newsletter Editor of the Academy of Management Technology & Innovation Management Division (2000-05).
He has published numerous articles in professional journals including: Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy, Journal of High Technology Management Research, Technovation, and Project Management Journal. He regularly reviews for JBV, JSBM, Research Policy, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Knowledge, Technology & Policy journal; and Academy of Management, ICSB, PICMET conferences. He is the author of several book chapters and a recently published book, Building Knowledge Regions in North America: Emerging Technology Innovation Poles, Edward Elgar Publishing, MA (2006).
Dr. Mian has been a speaker on the subject of new venture creation and related entrepreneurship policy aspects, making over 60 national and international conference and invited presentations over the past 10 years. He has also been involved in several consulting projects for industry as well as government including: IBM; Policy Research Center of the Coalition of North East Governors, Washington, DC; U.S. Department of Agriculture; U.S. Department of Energy; Morbin Oil Corp; New York State (Oswego County); the World Bank; the Organization for Economic Cooperation for Development (OECD), Paris; National Science & Technology Council (CONACYT), Mexico; Software Export Board, Pakistan; Toronto Sun Corporation and Ottawa-Carleton Research Institute, Canada
